Music Festival Line - July 2013

Venus made her third appearance in July of 2013 ready for the music festivals of summer! She was released with Clawdeen and Abbey. I was really looking forward to this doll as we could see her punky personality starting to show.

Appearance:

I'm going to kick it off with Venus's hair. From looking at the official artwork for Venus's Music Festival line release you would imagine that she would be supporting a sexy partial Mohawk separating the shaved side of her head and the side with hair.

Unfortunately her hair is really sleek. This disappointed me as I really don't think it does her style justice. It seems to be the regular length for Venus too, so they haven't really given her hair much excitement this time. However...

They did give her a cool green zig zag pattern on her shaven side though which was a nice touch :) Some fans have decided to take matters into their own hands and give Venus a cooler hairstyle to rock at the festival - Here are some of my favourites...

Unfortunately because I don't take my dolls out of the box, my Venus is cursed with boring hair for the rest of her existence.

Venus wears purple eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick. I really don't like this eyeshadow colour because to me it looks like she's had her eyes blacked in the mosh pit... But maybe that's just the look she's going for?!

However, I do love her outfit of choice. Venus wears a black one-shoulder dress with a pink and green pattern on it. The skirt of the dress seems to have a fishnet underskirt. On top of this she wears on off-the-shoulder t-shirt in hot pink that has torn edges. This is pulled together with a spikey green belt, which seems to be a re-occurring accessory with Venus, and a spikey pink bracelet. She also wears one vine-like earring that fits to the shape of her ear. And of course, who can forget the V.I.M backstage pass? We know she's worthy.

And finally, her not-so-sensible boots. I am LOVING the break in pink shoe tradition here - Venus looks awesome in her pretty lace-up boots with the rolled-down cuff - Gorgeous! I love the design on these :D

Accessories:

This Venus actually doesn't come with any extra accessories, just her VIM pass, but to be honest this is the Music Festival line, it's way too annoying to carry anything around that you don't 100% need with you :)

I like:
The boots!
The outfit, especially the dress.

I dislike:
The hair
The makeup
Still not a fan of the green belt!

Future Venus - Zombie Shake

Ok, I am SO excited you guys!

I first heard this line referred to as 'Zombie Dance' but I did a bit of digging around and found Zombie Shake (apparently there is a dance to learn too!)

Right now only Venus, Rochelle, Meowlody and Purrsephone have been announced and as you can see from the picture above they are being sold as sets of two. Psyched that Venus is being sold with Rochelle because she is also one of my favourite characters :D

It's so hard to find decent close-ups right now but it looks like Venus is wearing a green dress striped with black under a sleeveless top (which might be part of the dress) pulled together with a green belt.

You can also see that extra makeup feature have been added which look like vines above her eyes and on her cheeks.

I think I can ALMOST see some black detailing on the shaved part of her head but unfortunately I haven't been able to find a picture. However...

I managed to find this beauty. Her hair looks so awesome up in a high pony that would make any fearleader proud! Venus has streaks of black in her hair this time and has curled her pony. Vines tie it all up - awesome.

A lot of people seem to dislike the over look of these dolls and  I have to admit I was taken aback when I saw them as they are far from what society perceives as 'beautiful', some have described them as 'too dark' but I LOVE them. I mean, come on, it's the Zombie Shake! I'd go to a zombie party zombified too!!

There isn't a release date yet but I'm guessing Halloween 2014 :P Although I hope it's much sooner!

Make a Splash Line - January 2013

In January 2013 the Make a Splash line was released! I was so hyped because it seemed as though Venus was becoming a more popular character and I just couldn't wait to see more Venus dolls :)

The Make a Splash line (which isn't actually officially named the 'Make a Splash' line, but also doesn't have an official name - Read more here!) originally featured Draculaura, Lagoona and Venus (of course). I got my Venus doll for my birthday this year from my boyfriend :)

Appearance:
Straight away in comparison to the other girls' swim suits, you can see that Venus's is much more subtle, just a simple one-piece, no frills or fancy designs. I think the most OTT thing about her outfit is the neck piece which, let's face it, is not the most bizarre thing any of the Monster High cast has ever wore :P

So, hey, notice anything different about the two dolls above? Ah, well the Venus on the right was the 'Make a Splash' Venus that was originally released but had to be re-produced because they used the wrong makeup! Yes! As you can see on the picture on the right, Venus is wearing her original pink eyeshadow and red lipstick. The Venus on the left is the one most of us know and love - Green eyeshadow, pink lips and lighter eyebrows. The Venus on the right is now referred to as a variant.

There were only a few 'original' Make a Splash Venus dolls made before Mattel realised their mistake and so I REALLY want one in my collection! So if you know anyone selling one BOXED, please let me know!

Anyway on to the rest of the doll...

Venus supports a stylish yet practical hairstyle - A long, side ponytail with a poof so it's not in her way while she's swimming / sunbathing.

I LOVE those shades too, they're very Venus - Green with teeth at the top! Her one-piece also fits with her theme and has a bold zigzag design in pink, black, white and green. I'm not a fan of the neckline, however, the shape of it looks as though it should belong to Cleo or Nefera de Nile as in my opinion it has a slight Egyptian feel to it...

Venus goes for pink, wedged, open-toe sandals (as do all of the three original 'Make a Splash' girls) which are decorated with a teeth design on the wedge and pink vines for straps.

Accessories:

Venus also comes with her beach bag - Pink with fang decoration (not the one in the above picture, that's actually Draculaura's), and a towel which matches her swim suit. 'Make a Splash' Venus does not wear any earrings but still comes with her removable arm and leg vines.

I like:
The hair
The makeup (of the non-variant)

The majority of the swimsuit
The accessories

I dislike:
The neckline of the swimsuit

Future Venus - Coffin Bean

It's official! It seems that the Coffin Bean range introduced to the market at the beginning of this year was so popular that there is going to be another wave :D

Wave one was a three doll series including Frankie, Toralei and Abbey. The second wave (although... I'm not totally sure it'll be a separate wave...) includes Venus (of course), Twyla and Robecca, as stated by the Monster High Wikia.

Looks like Venus is girlying it up this time, look at those beautiful curls! Not too sure about that top though... I love it but it kinda looks like a nip-slip waiting to happen :P Her makeup looks lovely too, very natural :)

Very excited for this one! Release date is TBA but I will keep a keen eye out! :D

Signature Line V4 - Summer 2012

In summer 2012 came Venus McFlytrap and her pet Chewlian. I fell in love with Venus for many reasons:

1 - She's GREEN, which is my favourite colour.
2 - Her punky style.
3 - I LOVE Venus Flytraps. Carnivorous plants in general actually :)
4 - I also love McFly!

Venus was released at the same time as Rochelle and Robecca, both amazing characters, I think this wave of dolls was the most interesting :) Rochelle was actually a close second for me to start collecting but in my opinion she seemed to look more and more worried with each doll of her that came out!

Appearance:

Venus is the daughter of the Plant Monster, so naturally she has green skin and vines around her legs and arms. She also has numerous fangs that are positioned like an actual Venus Flytrap.
She describes her style as 'Eco Punk' which pretty much describes itself - Most of her outfits are punky pink and black with green accents. She wears a cropped, sleeveless denim jacket over a long pink and black t-shirt. She tops off her punky style with a black mini skirt over pink and black leggings.

Venus wears pink heels that have green laces (that look like vines), pink vines down each heel and green teeth in the platform.

Venus's hair is unlike any other Monster High dolls' hair because one side of her head is partially shaved and dyed pink! The other side has long green and pink hair that comes just past her knees.
Venus wears hot pink eye shadow, red lipstick. Her eyebrows are brown (suggesting she dyes her hair) and her eyes are a lovely light blue. Venus's face shape is rather long with pointy features.
Venus wears four earrings and more vines around her neck.

Accessories:

Venus comes with a hairbrush, her diary, a bag-for-life (as her purse of choice) and her pet Venus Flytrap, Chewlian.

I like:

The makeup
The hair
The Shoes
The t-shirt

I dislike:

Chewlian (Sorry, not a fan!)
The denim jacket

I'm Ash and I'm a Venus McFlytrap collector.

I've loved Monster High dolls since I first saw them! I would have absolutely loved these dolls as a kid and I would have probably had quite a collection to play with alongside my sister's Barbies. As well as the amazing characters this range of dolls has, the other thing I love about Monster High is they show kids that you don't have to be a busty blonde to be totally awesome.

I used to love Frankie Stein and Draculaura but as I was in my early twenties, and completely broke from University fees, I always longed for a doll but never actually bought one.

But then I saw Venus and I knew I had to have her!

I started my collection late. The first Venus doll came out in 2012 and I got my very first Venus doll for Christmas, 2013. To date I have caught up as I have all five Venus dolls that are currently available and I am so excited to see that a definite three (five rumoured) more Venus dolls will be making an appearance this year!

Unfortunately, as I don't take my dolls out of the box and because my camera isn't the best, most of my pictures on here will be stock images but I guess that can't be helped.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy! :D
